As you may be aware we have just come through a very challenging time of the last few days with Storm Francis sweeping across the nation which has caused national dock and terminal closures. Due to these closures our intermodal services from Felixstowe have been heavily impacted resulting in two import services cancelling. The usual bank holiday volume increase and a reduction in services has seen the rail network at full capacity, however, we are working with our supply base and rail partners to ensure that our customers are kept up to date and serviced during these difficult times. According to the weather updates things are looking better for next week however we are fighting a back log and will do our upmost to help if we can. Should you have enquiries feel free to contact us.
A great start to the season at Donington Race circuit last weekend, our Driver John Newell hit the throttle hard and has taken us straight to the top of the British Truck Racing Championships. He battled on the circuit with 18 trucks, 9 from Division 1 and returned with a First place, a Second place, 2 Fourth places and a Fifth. We couldn’t be more proud of him and the team who work hard to build, repair and develop the race truck and racing activities.
What can we say, Covid-19 has brought absolute devastation with it and us in the Transport and Haulage sector have definitely felt it. Thankfully we have pulled together, adapted the way we work, supported our staff and customers and are starting to see the other side. We just want to say thank you to all our staff, the keyworkers who continued to plan, drive, deliver, collect and make sure that Newell and Wright Transport supported itself and our community. Please make sure you are following government guidelines, we are not out of the woods yet but Newell and Wright have been here for over 40 years and are proud to #keepontrucking but please #staysafe.
With lot’s of help from Janet Stain we have been able to transport School and Hospital equipment to Village Barrow Kunda, in Gambia which is 150miles inland. A huge thank you to people that donated lots of items including chairs and cupboards from Lydgate Lane middle school. The tiny mattresses for the babies cots are made and donated by Health Beds of Thurcroft they are the Royal Bed Makers. Let’s hope our little bit of help makes a big difference.
Very pleased to add the new Mercedes Actros 5 to our fleet, if you look carefully you’ll see this truck uses cameras instead of wing mirrors.
It is said to be the "safest, most efficient, and best-connected truck ever".
They also say that it is“an enormous improvement in terms of aerodynamics, safety, and vehicle handling.” The 2 mounted cameras visible above the windows on the outside of the truck project the information to two 15-inch displays attached to the A-pillars within the cabin. Keep an eye out for these on our fleet up and down the country.
