Well the feedback from the last race weekend and all our supporters has been incredible, we could not have asked for anymore from our guests and sponsors. Finishing in 3rd place overall in the British Truck Racing Championship has been the icing on the cake, we plan to make this bigger and better next year and the other teams know it. Johns driving has developed massively over the last year and so has the truck. The team understand the potential in both and the guests are always looking forward to their next visits. Our hospitality trailer has gone down a storm particularly in the poor weather, guests get to spend their day with the team, with John, look around the truck, ask questions and indulge in good food and drink. This is before they leave with our goodie bags full of sponsored merchandise
The final race weekend saw us gain a further 43 points taking us 23 a head of Mark Taylor. Qualifying was heated with 13 trucks competing, it was messy and aggressive but we took 8th place in very wet conditions before the session was abandoned following a red flag, we saw trucks hitting barriers at high speeds due to the amount of water on the track. Our best lap-time was 1:14.255 however over the weekend John managed some brilliant lap-times including our best of 59.8 seconds.
Race 1 saw us finish in 6th place after overtaking Ricky Collett and Terry Gibon, again the rain caused issues but John avoided any risky manoeuvres to ensure the truck finished in one piece. As a team we knew our priority must be increasing the point difference to take 3rd place.
On Sunday we started in position 3 as it was a reverse grid, this race had a hectic start pushing us back to 7th place, thankfully John managed to overtake Ray Coleman and Simon Reid to finish in 5th place.
We started in Position 6 in Race 2 of Sunday and finished 4th place after overtaking Ray Coleman and Ryan Smith, John also managed his fastest lap in this race once the weather had started to improve.
Our final race of the Championship put us in position 6 on the start and we finished in position 8, the truck was in good condition and we took more points to be well ahead for our final 3rd place. A big congratulations to Ryan Smith who took 1st place overall.
All the team will be collecting the trophy at the annual Dinner and Dance black tie event on 23rd November, a great opportunity to chat to the other teams, celebrate our huge success and end the season with good food and a lot of dancing.
Overall as a team we have accommodated over 200 hospitality guests and have collected 12 trophies, a huge thank you once again for your support.
Wow what a month September has been, a great start to the autumn. It’s been Lights, Camera, Action on our Sheffield yard whilst filming our latest safety video. Safety is paramount in our game and it’s an ever changing industry, thankfully our talented staff are always on hand to take the leading roles. Tomo played a blinding role in this latest video and there’s talk of a sequel!
Speaking of our talented staff, we had our office athletes running the Ipswich Half Marathon to raise funds for Cancer Research. some impressive times and plenty of money donated to a great cause.
Here at Sheffield we have increased the fleet further adding 7, 69 plate MAN’s, if you see them passing, give us a wave. Keeping our fleet serviced and up to date is key to making sure our service is always reliable.
This month, our brothers John and Stephen Newell were down at Snetterton Circuit with the family entertaining our supporters and sponsors at the British Truck Racing Championships. John put in some brilliant driving to give us 2 new trophies for the cabinet and the customers loved the full hospitality whilst there. Our gift bags went down a treat with all the family and John let the kids have a seat in the race truck, so happy faces all round. Our last hospitality event will be at Brands Hatch on 2nd and 3rd of November, an amazing finish to the season and hopefully where we can take 3rd position overall.
Last but not least our young champs at Greenhill Football Club have won 3 of their first 4 games of the season against some very difficult clubs.
They wore our logo with pride whilst flag bearing at the Sheffield United v Liverpool FC match. What a great start to their season, we are all very proud to be their sponsors.

As part of our continued investment into the container rail port facility for commercial transportation across the UK we have invested in a new locomotive which is complete with Newell & Wright brand livery. The newly painted GBRF 66747 in Newell & Wright Transport markings is already working on the rail network and has been spotted a few times by some enthusiasts.
Our rail port continues to be a vital part of our long term objectives where we have seen increases in traffic and container numbers going through the facility. Investment in rail across the midlands and the north of England is also envisaged over the coming years as part of the governments plans to explore opportunities to increase railway capacity to drive economic and industrial growth.
John Newell From Newell & Wright Motorsport Truck Racing was at the very sunny weekend at Thruxton for the MV Commercial BTRA Championship race weekend. The British Truck Racing Association Championship is one of the UK’s premier motor sport categories and continues to grow a cult following wherever it goes. The sport itself didn’t start in the United States of America until 1979, but once it hit British shores it proved to be a roaring success – ultimately becoming what it currently is now.
Weighing in at more than five tonnes, the championship has for a long time been split into two divisions. The top tier is home to the most advanced machine that have bespoke braking and suspension systems; elsewhere the second division is likened towards more production-based machines. Producing more than 1000bhp and limited to 100mph, the action is fast-paced with plenty of door-to-door moments coming from both divisions across all eight events, that travel the length and breadth of the UK for a majority of the campaign.
Newell & Wright have been undertaking a long term restoration of a Volvo F88 Truck. The Volvo F88 was a heavy vehicle introduced in 1964. It was a particularly advanced vehicle for its time, with an all-steel-constructed cab at a time when some British manufacturers were still producing wood-framed with alloy panelling vehicles. Also, unusually for the late 1960s, it was available with a sleeper cab with additional space behind the driver where a bunk was fitted. Newell & Wright present our very own fully restored example UWW 293R registered in May 1977.
The Volvo F88/F89 was a series of heavy-duty trucks produced by Swedish automaker Volvo between 1965 and 1977. Volvo presented the forward control F88 in 1965. The truck was the first part of the company's export-oriented "System 8", which served as basis for the truck giant Volvo is today. The F88 sold well internationally and began a reputation for durable cab-over trucks.

Earlier in 2018 we provided a news item relating to recent developments from Volvo in relation to an "all electric" Truck for commercial usage. Volvo Trucks has recently announced that it has now delivered its first all-electric vehicles in the last two weeks to a refuse truck to waste and recycling company Renova, and a distribution truck to the logistics company DB Schenker and partner haulier TGM, operating in Sweden.
The Volvo FL Electric trucks are part of a pre-series developed in collaboration with selected customers. Series production of the Volvo FL Electric and its powerful sibling, the Volvo FE Electric, will commence with a limited number of trucks for the European markets in the second half of 2019. The absence of motor noise and exhaust emissions contributes to better working conditions for the drivers and a quieter, cleaner urban environment.

Although the new season started late last year and we recently announced that Newell & Wright Group were happy to again sponsor the extremely talented Greenhill under 11’s team. Last year the team played in a 9 a side tournament and claimed their first trophy in a new format emerging victorious with excellent performances with a record of played 6, won 6, scored 15 and conceded 0. That is a remarkable achievement for a special group of lads. We wish the team all the best this year as we head into 2019.
